Monika's birthday is coming

Monika's birthday is coming up, and we are thinking of sending her cheering notes and messages on her special day. We have put a scrap book at my desk, if you want you can stop by and leave messages.

You can come latest by tomorrow May 25, 3 PM. My cube # 2015 in Building VP2 A.

Hi all,

As most of you know, Monika Gupta was hit by a car and was on life support when she was first admitted to the hospital.  Kevin Li & Nidhi Lakhwara have been providing us regular updates (via email and http://welovemonika.blogspot.com/) and when we heard she was out of ICU, some of us went to visit her.  Her brother is the only family member who flew to US as soon as he was informed of the accident.  I know there are quite a few people from Apple who visit her daily but I though it would be nice if most of us could spend one hour per week to cheer her up and support her brother at the same time (since she has no other family here).  I also learned that her birthday was coming up and maybe that one hour could be your valuable gift to her in the time that she really needs some support.

If you are interested in visiting her, please let me know so I can work out the visiting calendar with Nidhi.

5/20/2009 - it is a miracle

Tonight, visited Monika, Rajesh, Tomy, Robin, Karen, Nidhi and some other folks from finance team was there, Tomy's loudly sound seems cheer up Monika a lots and she waved her hand, I believe she recognized everyone of us .

She is happy to see all of us and excited , of course, later she was under the pain and sleep...

Ritesh and her brother stay with Monika and taking good care her.

It is a Miracle to see she recovered so well, I finally able to tell them what I had experienced in the fast night when I get phone call from hospital, when I first reach hospital, they told me Monika may not able to make it and need find her relative asap , I was making hopeless phone call one by one at that friday night and nobody response me or give me the contact at the first 2 hour, Nurse and police keep asking me where is her family ...that is such a bad feeling....,

later, everyone start to response and we are able to located her family , everyone start to gather at hospital... but Dr never give positive hint...

Her survive rate is 10%, a team of 15 doctors from stanford and Valley Medical center was fighting with Monika for her life, the rate increased to 50% after 2 days.. till now, she is out of ICU and able to talk with us...it is a miracle ...

there are flowers, toy around Monika, I have asked Ritesh to pass me a smiling Monika's picture, I will post it once I have it.

Next Week, it is Monika's Birthday , she deserve a big Party ...

If any of you plan to visit Monika during lunch or dinner time, it will be nice if you can take her brother or Ritesh out for lunch or coffee, give them a refresh , they need support as well.

Update 5/19- Some Good news

Monika has been moved out of ICU to recovery ward. She has responded well to the treatment.

she has been trying to speak and was able to utter few words softly. Doctors will be trying to remove feeding tube today

Update 5/18

As of today after noon. Monika was stable. doctors have removed her ventilator support.Her neck support has also been removed and she is balancing her head on her own. She did try to talk but due to lot of fluids etc had difficulty speaking. she was able to recognize people and express by gestures.

Update 5/16/10....

Monika was stable over the weekend. Her breathing support systems were removed on saturday and she was conscious and was able to express herself through gestures and facial expressions.

Doctors have asked her to try to talk and interact a bit with people.

We need some volunteers who are familiar with her and can be with her in evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. if your would like to visit her for this time window please let me or Nidhi know

05/14/10 7 PM : Visited Monika This Evening

Went to see Monika this evening. They had kept her sedated due to minor surgery she underwent this afternoon. Her Brother told she will be again out of sedation by tomorrow.

update 5/15/10 10 AM- very positive news

There is good update on Monika. She opened her eyes and is able to respond to command. She was able to answer questions by shaking her head in yes or no.

Update:

I meet her today afternoon before Doctors took her for Leg surgery.

She was conscious and was responding to command.though she couldn't talk cos of all the ventilator tubes etc she was able to respond to us using her hand movements and face gestures.

Today evening's updates

Monika's vital signs were stable . Doctors have stopped her sedation medications and she continues on pain medications. for first time she today responded a lil to the instruction but it was very limited.Her blood platelet counts were lil low today and doctors are giving her blood products.

Doctors plan to do a surgery on her right leg tomorrow. This is to close a incision that they had left after last surgery.Also doctors detected a new minor fracture on her right arm and they are analyzing it further for next course of action

Today get chance to talked with Monika's brother, two kevin and Madhu visit and meet Monika's borther, she is getting better, Dr reduced the sedation, and reduce the use of life support system. she response a little ...

very soon, It will be the time for people to "talk" to her, and wake up her .

Hi All,

This morning, Dr have tried reduced her sedation and she did show some movements and minor responses , one moment, she opened her eyes , but her brain pressure went high, so they again put her back to the life support,

Dr will try to wake up her again tomorrow...

I heard she has some tears today, I believe it is good news...

Here is the latest update:
Monika finished a 6-8 hours surgery today for her, arm, hand, chest , Pelvic, leg bone injury , she is stable after the surgery, Dr may try to wake her up tomorrow if everything goes well.

Let pray Monika will wake up soon.

Hi All,
I called Monika's brother, her vitals were stable ,same as yesterday, the plans for her surgery today has been postponed as Dr wanted to investigate few things in her leg.

If anyone plan to visit her, the visiting hour is 10am-2:00 pm, 4:00 pm-8:00 pm, she is still under critical and unconscious, and only 2 person are allowed at a time.

No fresh Flower !!!!

Hi All :
Monika 's surgery on her leg goes well, Dr noticed her body has some response, BP is normal now, we have chance to sit with her and "talk" to her today, we noticed her finger and arm move in one moment . Dr have kept her under critical observation and next surgery is planned for Monday if other things remain ok.

Monika's brother landed here and stay with her now.

I will keep you posted for any update. thanks everyone !!!!

Hi all

Monika had a emergency surgery and it went ok .her vital signs are positive though she continues to be critical and still in danger.

Dr have kept her under critical observation and next surgery is planned for Monday if other things remain ok.

Thanks again for all the support extended by each one of you.

I would be sending next update tomorrow evening as she continues under observation.

Hi All,

Update 11:30 AM 5/8:

Monika's is still in critical condition at ICU, her BP and vital signs is getting better, Doctors are operating a 3+ hours surgery for her broken bone now. we should have an update this afternoon, the team from Valley Medical and Stanford Medical are focus on the operation now.

Please do not try to visit the ICU or sent any fresh flower there,

For the accident , since everyone is asking me, as I know, the driver said the late afternoon sunshine blind his eyes , so he make a turn without sight and hit Monika.

Monika's vital signs are lil stable now though she is still not out of danger.

Doctors have been able to stop her bleeding and her BP is some what better now and she continues on blood infusion and life support

Dr have kept her under critical observation and we will get next update in morning from the Dr.

Her family Is starting from India today and will be here by Sunday

Hi Everyone,

Here is the latest update about Monika Gupta,

In talking with Doctor and Police officer, we learned Monika was hit by a car when she was crossing the steven creek near HW-280, she has multiple severe injury and still in critical condition at the ...... Center ICU, hospital have formed a medical group working with her.

the latest news, her blood pressure reaching normal now, and Dr located her internal bleeding point, surgery is on the way, this is good news.

We have located her parents in Indian and they have talked with Dr, her relative in the town is coming, Satendra and Puneet from TCS stay at hospital now.

I understand many of you trying to visit Monika now, as we learned from Dr, this is not very good time for friends to visit until she is stabled, please pray for Monika , Puneet and me will sent out her latest update .

Please pray for Monika, she is a strong girl, she can make it !!!
